The Premier League returns this Friday, the 5th of August, and it’s shaping up to be yet another brilliant season of action. As always, the best teams in the English league will be playing to determine who gets the honour of lifting the coveted Premier League trophy. The current champions, Manchester City, will be hoping to defend their title but it will be hotly contested by Liverpool and the other big teams.
We’ve already had a taste of Premier League action on Sunday in the Community Shield as Manchester City took on Liverpool. The defending champions were beaten 3-1, and Liverpool fans will certainly be hoping their team can keep up that level of performance over the rest of the season. Manchester City are the current favourites with odds of 1.58 while Liverpool are second favourites at 3.3.
This will be a unique season for the Premier League, as the FIFA World Cup takes place in the winter, causing potential fixture congestion and posing unique challenges for managers and players. The new substitution rule will also allow teams to make up to five changes per game, giving managers a lot to think about.
Premier League Winning Odds
As the champions, Manchester City are the favourites, but Liverpool will no doubt run them close again. Last season the red finished just one point behind their rivals while also going further in the Champions League and FA Cup. It could be yet another close season between these two excellent teams as both have strengthened over the summer, making key changes to their squads.
While Liverpool have lost the talents of Sadio Mane, they’ve signed Darwin Nunez, and they still have Salah, who looks to be firing on all cylinders once again. In the meantime, City have brought in the impressive Haaland but have lost Sterling. It would be unwise to count out Liverpool, and you can bet on them to win the league at great odds.
Outside of the top two teams of Liverpool and Manchester City, there are some potential title challengers. Tottenham look stronger than ever under Conte and have reinforced their squad well in the transfer window. They’re available at odds of 12.2. Meanwhile, Chelsea look to be a team in transition, but their London rivals Arsenal could mount a serious title challenge this year, as could Manchester United under the management of Erik ten Hag.
Premier League Top Scorer Odds
Outside of the title race, the race for the golden boot is always exciting too. Last season saw Son and Salah share the award as they each scored 23 goals. This season, the odds show that Haaland is the favourite at 3.8. Although it’s his first season in the league, he’s been one of the top scorers in the Champions League and the Bundesliga over the past few seasons. However, he does have a history of injuries that could mean he misses out on games.
Salah is the second favourite to win the Premier League top scorer award with odds of 5.45. Considering he’s scored over 19 goals a season for every season he’s been in the Premier League with Liverpool. He’s now won the award three times and has another great chance to do so this season.
Other potential winners include Harry Kane at 6.2, who has also won the award three times and Son Heung-min at 14.1, who won for the first time last season. Gabriel Jesus could also be a great pick as an outside choice at 12.8. Although he’s never won the award before, he’s looked excellent in preseason for Arsenal, who have a very strong attacking team this season.
