22/10/2020

Welcome to the second part of our Casino Hold’em for beginners series! In this part, we will take you through some basic strategies and tips that will help you get started.

Casino Hold’em tips and strategies

Casino Hold’em is easy to learn, and you don’t need to be a poker pro to enjoy the game. As long as you know the poker hands and some basic Casino Hold’em strategies, you’ll be ready to take a seat at the table and play your first hand. Casino Hold’em requires both skill and luck, and you’ll need to make the optimal decisions to maximise the game’s payout percentage. To help you get started, we have collected some great tips for beginners below.

  • Learn the poker hands: No matter which poker game you play, it is essential to know the strength of your hand. Just like in regular poker, a straight beats two pairs and a full house beats a flush. Since you will be basing your decisions on the strength of your hand, it is recommended to learn all the hands by heart or to have a poker hand chart at hand while playing.
  • Play most of your hands: The trick to winning in Casino Hold’em is knowing when to fold and forfeit your ante and when to raise the bet. The optimal strategy says that you should play around 82% of your hands on average – in other words, you should only fold 18% of the hands you are dealt. The reason for this is that forfeiting your ante bet is almost never better than adding a few more chips to the pot and playing your hand, as you are quite likely to win. Essentially, this means that you should call with any pair, straight draws, flush draws, and when you hold two overcards (especially an Ace or a King).
  • Avoid the AA bet: Most online Casino Hold’em games offer a side bet called AA Bonus. This bet pays out bigger prizes if you create a winning hand with a pair of Aces or higher. Placing a few chips on the AA Bonus can be fun, but remember that the house has a much higher edge on the side bets compared to the normal bet.
